10-13-09 - Well the "Stargate Atlantis" litter continues to grow by leaps and bounds.  This is by far one of the strongest litters I have ever had.  As of today, everyone is opening their eyes.  "Teyla" was first to open hers on the 10th.  "Ronon" was last to open his on the 12th.  All are gaining weight at an appropriate level.  "Ronon" - aka "The Chunk" tipped the scale at over 3 pounds on the 12th - nice BIG boy!  "Adria", despite the character she is named after, is the sweetest little thing.  She has been great with all of the puppy stimulation exercises that we do and rarely complains.  Her sister, "Teyla", on the other hand is quite the independent little soul.  "Rodney" is the loner and can often be found away from his siblings.  "Shepherd" loves to seek out "Adria" and cuddle with her - funny as they are the 2 white with black patches.  Then there is sweet "Carson" he is very snuggly and enjoys being held against your chest.  With their eyes opening this week - it only gets more fun from here (and more messy...).  "Vala" is being a great mom, but also enjoys her "people" time away from the litter.

9-7-09 - "Gibson" is the proud sire of a litter of 6. Bred to Robin Prince's "Roxy" the litter of 4 boys and 2 girls made it truly a great Labor Day.  You can watch these kids grow at Robin's Tahoe Canaan Dog Site.

9-5-09 - "Bogart" earns his AKC Championship.  Additionally, "Gibson's" daughter, "Freedom" - owned by Annette Israel - earns another point towards her AKC Championship.

5-8-09 - Herding photos now posted - click here.

4-30-09 - Oconomowoc, WI - CDCA National Specialty - this week has been a great week for Canaan Dogs and the River Rock Crew.  Congrats to 2009 CDCA Best of Breed - Ch. Mad River Cool Breeze Blowing.  The Specialty found "Kate" and "Gibson" as the Best Brace.  "Raiah" won the over 10 year old Veteran Sweepstakes Class.  "Kate" was second place in a nice class of Bred-by Exhibitor bitches.  "Gibson's" daughter "Freedom", owned by Annette Israel, was awarded Best in Sweepstakes.  "Bogy" received his first qualifying score in Rally Obedience and earned 3rd place in the Novice B class.  I look to post photos tomorrow before our reasonable ring time of 1PM Central time.  We are having a wonderful time catching up with friends, meeting new friends and enjoying a great group of Canaan Dogs!

3-5-09 to 3-8-09 - Nashville, TN - The Country Music Cluster brought us much success and time to catch up with friends Donna Davison, Denise Gordon and Norma Bennett Woolf.  Thursday found "Gibson" earning his AKC Championship the hard way - Best of Breed from the Bred-by Class over "Vala" to earn his last point.  "Vala" took her revenge on Friday and defeated "Gibson" and "Kate" for Best of Breed.  Ethan and "Vala" made a nice showing in the Herding Group.  The Canaan Dog Entry tripled on Saturday and Sunday with the arrival of Donna, Denise and Norma.  "Kate" was awarded Winners Bitch on Saturday and Sunday for a total of four more points.  Ethan propelled "Vala" to Best of Breed Saturday and Sunday to help her hold the #1 Canaan Dog spot in breed points.  I'm also pleased to report that "Gibson" and "Kate" both CERF'd (eyes) clear.  This will give "Gibson" his CHIC once the paperwork is processed.  It was so great to catch up with everybody.  Our next escapade will be the Canaan Dog Club of America National Specialty at the end of April in WI.  We will be busy getting ready for conformation and rally.

2-18-09 - The first breed statistics of they year are posted and "Vala" is currently the Number 1 Canaan Dog in Breed Points through January 31, 2009.  Go, Vala, Go!!

2-13-09 to 2-15-09 - Greenville, SC - The Foothills Cluster gave us time to catch up with friends, Dan & Julie Haddy of JoClem Boston Terriers and Canaan Dogs, and show a dog or two.  Friday found "Vala" as Best of Breed and "Orella" owned by the Haddy's took Winners Bitch.  Saturday was "Russo's" day to strut her stuff and she garnered the points, with "Vala" taking Best of Breed.  Sunday was quite the surprise for me as "Kate" took the points and went on to defeat "Vala" for Best of Breed.  I could not have been more proud of "Kate" in the Herding Group that afternoon - you would have thought she was born for the show ring.

1-30-09 to 2-1-09 - Atlanta, GA - The Cherokee Rose Cluster saw "Vala" take Best of Breed all three days, "Kate" was Winner's Bitch all three days and earned her first 3 points towards her AKC Championship.  "Russo" is still learning the ropes and started to "get it" by Sunday's show.  Ethan and "Vala" looked great in group.  We had a wonderful time and enjoyed making new friends this weekend.

1-3-2009 & 1-4-2009 - Pendleton, SC - Clemson Kennel Club - Our first shows of 2009 bring us a new champion and 2 Best of Breed wins.  "Z" completed his AKC Championship on 1-4-2009 under Judge Sandra Wolfskill.  At 7.5 years young, we were very pleased with this accomplishment.  "Vala", handled by 13 year old Ethan, was Best of Breed both days and looked lovely in the Herding Group.  Young "Kate" was Reserve Winners Bitch on Saturday and enjoyed the show both days.  "Russo" made her first ring appearance and enjoyed meeting ALL the people.

Ethan and I had a wonderful time catching up with fellow Canaan Dog owners Dan & Julie Haddy and Annette Israel.  I enjoyed helping evaluate my first Boston Terrier litter - thanks Julie for letting me help.  We are looking forward to our next shows and hope to have more good news to report.
